Project Beginning
Early 2011 me and Westpac purchased this 70 acre property as a family farm and project site with the intention to create a demonstration site based around Permaculture design. After several years doing overseas aid project work I finally came to the conclusion that aid work as rewarding as it was not going to pay for my future plans. The thought to create a project where others with interest in learning and sharing their skills relating to sustainability came as a more realistic goal to satisfy my desires to teach what I know and learn.
As it would turn out, the property is in the immediate area to where my families original clan had settled. This only became apparent after I had settled the contract to purchase and had moved in. Looking back on this, I recall the sense of connection to the land or the sense of coming home when I first arrived to view the place.
The property has in the past been a sheep and cattle raising farm. It is somewhat dry with an annual rainfall of 300mm - 600mm. When looking for land I purposely sought drier, poorer type land so I could research and implement water harvesting strategies across the site.
